For more than 30 years, Simply Skylights has been transforming homes and businesses across Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains with natural light, fresh air, and architectural style.
From the very beginning, our philosophy has been simple: specialise, don’t generalise. Unlike many builders or carpenters who “also do skylights,” our team are true skylight experts. Every installation is carried out by our full-time employees, never subcontracted out; ensuring uncompromising quality and consistent service on every project.
What began as Derek Murphy’s one-man venture in the Blue Mountains has grown into the largest independent VELUX installer in New South Wales. Derek’s experience as a qualified shipwright and architectural draughtsman gave Simply Skylights its foundation of precision, craftsmanship, and integrity.
As demand grew, so did our reach, with a move to Penrith in 2015 and the opening of our flagship VELUX showroom in 2018, the only one of its kind in Greater Western Sydney.
Today, Simply Skylights continues to evolve under the leadership of Director and Owner, Jonathon Essery.
Jono brings a refreshing energy and vision to Simply Skylights, paired with deep local roots in Western Sydney. Starting his career in carpentry straight out of school, Jono completed his apprenticeship in just three years and quickly established himself as a skilled, driven tradesman. His natural leadership, innovation, and customer-first approach made him the ideal successor to Derek and Alison Murphy, who continue to support the business in the background as they transition toward retirement.
In 2023, Jono took the helm as Director with a clear mission: to make Simply Skylights the benchmark for skylight installation across Greater Sydney. Balancing the demands of running a thriving business with raising a young family, Jono is admired for his practical mindset, quick wit, and ability to build lasting trust with every client.

Simply Skylights supplies and installs premium skylights, tube lights, roof windows, whirlybirds, Australian made Amboss access ladders and storage rooms for homes and businesses. From solar-powered skylights to integrated blind systems, we deliver smart solutions that add light, ventilation, and style. All work is completed by our own licensed team as Velux-recommended installers, quality is always guaranteed.

Shout out to Simply Skylights. Our house is a renovated 1925-bungalow with a very complicated roof-structure, yet these guys were able to work around it and create the optimal result - providing as much light as possible within architectural restraints, also achieving perfect symmetry to suit the decor/architecture. These guys know their stuff!
They were all the good Ps - professional, proficient, polite, (work)-proud, precise and punctual. And they even went above and beyond to patch up flaking paint on another part of the ceiling.
Our house is now bathed in light! I love it so much!!! It’s not just a renovation; it’s a whole new sense of well-being! My only complaint is that my neck’s sore from looking up in awe!
